Department of Nuclear Medicine

Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Regensburg is one of the few German centers which offers all nuclear medicine examinations and therapies. The department uses its innovative technology for the diagnosis of diseases of the bones, joint, lung, nervous system, kidneys, neuroendocrine, adrenal glands, and lymphatic drainage. The nuclear medicine innovative diagnostics were also proven useful for the management of cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial perfusion scintigraphy in rest and after exercise and using Tc-99m phosphonates for the diagnosis of myocardial amyloidosis.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Dipl. Phys. Dirk Hellwig, the facility treats over 1,800 patients every year, many of which suffer from thyroid diseases. The medical staff works in cooperation with the Oncology Department of the University Center Regensburg and the University Heart Center Regensburg for the management of thyroid diseases through ultrasound, color-coded Doppler sonography, elastography, and many types of scintigraphy.
