Department of Neurosurgery
Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Regensburg provides surgical care for patients with diseases of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system. The department is a center of maximum care that works in close cooperation with the Neuro-Oncology Center and the Center for Deep Brain Stimulation. The main focuses of the department are the treatment of brain tumors, neurovascular diseases, spine surgery, and pain management as it works closely with the Department of Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Radiotherapy for skull base surgery. It’s also in collaboration with the Department of Traumatology for spine surgeries and the Department of Vascular Surgery for vascular diseases of the nervous systems while the pediatric unit works with the Department of Pediatrics to ensure optimal care for this sensitive age group. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Alexander Brawanski, the medical staff treats over 1,400 inpatients every year in the 43 beds of the general wards.
