Department of Internal Medicine II (Cardiology and Pulmonology) at University Hospital Regensburg provides care for patients with diseases of the cardiovascular and lower respiratory system. The department has the main focus on the treatment of heart attack, coronary heart disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, valvular heart diseases, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, and pulmonary hypertension. The sleep laboratory has been certified by the German Society of Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine for its work in the treatment of complex sleep-related breathing disorders.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Lars Maier, the medical staff treats over 4,000 inpatients every year. The outpatient clinic for Pulmonary Hypertension offers the full range of medical care for patients with pulmonary hypertension according to the latest scientific findings. The facility also has the Center for Interventional Aortic Valve Therapy that mainly focuses on aortic stenosis by minimally invasive procedures and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
