Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics

Department of Gynecology at University Hospital Regensburg provides conservative and surgical care for women with diseases of the reproductive organs and the breast. The Gynecology unit is a certified center for the treatment of breast cancer and gynecological tumors by the German Cancer Society and also focuses on urogynecology problems such as urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. The specialized Breast Cancer Center which works under the umbrella of the Tumor Center Regensburg and offers the full spectrum of care for breast cancer, including early detection methods, surgical treatment, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy, and chemotherapy.
The Obstetrics unit is certified by FOCUS Magazine as one of the best medical facilities in Germany in its field, and also has a Perinatal Center of Level I, the highest level of care. The Perinatal Center is one of the largest maternity hospitals in Germany as it has the cooperation and teaching of Pediatrics Departments, the University Hospital Regensburg, and the Children's University Hospital East Bavaria.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Birgit Seelbach-Göbel, the medical team uses the cutting-edge equipment and instruments to perform over 1,500 gynecologic operations and more than 3,000 births every year, as well as helps properly manage pregnancies, detects high-risk pregnancies early, and provide safe and healthy delivery to the newborns. The department also offers consultations as well as health education for the mothers after birth, especially regarding breastfeeding and the significant signs which require medical interventions.
