University Hospital Rechts der Isar

Head of the Department
Prof. Dr. Hans-Henning Eckstein
Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
The Department of Vascular Surgery is led by a team of 8 medical specialists. The team is directed by Prof. Hans-Henning Eckstein. Their main specialities are peripheral artery disease, carotid artery stenosis, as well as all acute and chronic diseases of the arteries and veins.
The Rechts der Isar Hospital encourages interdisciplinary cooperation. To this end, the Rechts der Isar hospital founded the Interdisciplinary Center for Vascular Diseases in 2000 and the Munich Aortic Center (MAC) of the the Technical University of Munich in 2012. The department collaborates with other specialist disciplines such as radiology, neurology, cardiology, nephrology, diabetology and cardiac surgery to provide appropriate treatment to the patient. The department is part of the interdisciplinary vascular board which meets three times a week and the aortic board which meets twice a month. These meetings involve the discussion and medical review of individual therapy for the patient.
The Vascular Surgery Clinic has 38 beds spread over two general care units (M2a and M3b). The patients are nursed by well-trained nurses. After a major surgery or emergency, patients are referred to as one of the interdisciplinary intensive care units (M2b and L1a) for follow-up treatment.
Specially trained staff organize inpatient admission and discharge. This includes the organization of the so-called pre-hospital day, i.e. the day before the actual hospital stay, and the smooth follow-up.
