The department, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Helmut Friess is certified by the German Cancer Society as Colon and Pancreatic Cancer Center. Also, the German Society of General and Abdominal Surgery has awarded the department as the Center of Excellence in the surgical treatment of esophageal and gastric diseases.
