Department of Neurology

The Rechts der Isar Department of Neurology combines the highest medical expertise and modern medical-technical equipment in a friendly atmosphere. The medical Director Prof. Dr. med. Bernhard Hemmer and his medical team of more than 50 doctors are engaged in the provision of adequate healthcare to patients.

In addition, the participation of the clinic in interdisciplinary collaboration with the Neuro-Head Center helps in making the diagnosis of diseases and pathologies faster and increases the scope of accurate diagnosis. This ensures the best possible treatment of even the most complex neurological diseases.

Every year, around 3,500 inpatients and several thousand outpatients are treated at the Neurological Department of Recht der Isar. The clinic has 60 beds on the L1c and L1b stations on the first floor and the L3b ward on the third floor of the Neuro-head center. The bright and friendly patient rooms are modern and mostly furnished with two beds. In addition, the Department of Neurology has a Stroke Unit, with a total of twelve beds, which is an integral part of the team of interdisciplinary intensive care units. 

The university hospital Rechts der Isar’s Department of Neurology is specialized in:

  • Treatment of Inflammatory diseases of the nervous system 
  • Treatment of Movement disorders and neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease and Parkinson's syndrome, tremor, dystonia, and restless legs syndrome. 
  • Treatment of Neurodegenerative or genetic diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) 
  • Treatment of Neurovascular disorders such as stroke (cerebral infarction or cerebral hemorrhage), cerebral vein thrombosis, vascular inflammation or atherosclerotic constrictions (stenoses) of the cerebral vessels.  
  • Neuro-oncology therapy for patients with primary brain tumors (gliomas, CNS lymphomas) or metastases of other primary tumors.
