Department of Internal Medicine III: Hematology and Oncology
The University hospital Rechts der Isar’s Department of Internal Medicine III: Hematology and Oncology team consists of more than 30 specialized doctors and about 40 nurses. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Florian Bassermann, the department uses the latest medical technologies and regularly updated medical guidelines for the treatment of various cancers of the blood and lymphatic systems such as leukemia, multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin's and Hodgkin's lymphomas. The department’s team of experts uses every form of multimodal therapy which includes a combination of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy and other supportive forms of therapy tailored to the individual patient. About 183 cases of lymphomas, 195 different types of bone marrow cancer along with various cancers of the blood are treated every year in the Department of Hematology and Oncology.
The Department of Internal Medicine III is certified under the umbrella of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Munich (CCCM) and regularly offers information events for cancer patients. In addition to technically state-of-the-art equipment and innovative therapies, self-image includes above all detailed advice and human commitment to the patients. The department also offers nutritional, and psycho-oncological care on request.
The Department of Internal Medicine III: Hematology and Oncology at the University hospital Rechts der Isar is specialized in:
- Individual tumor therapy
- Targeted therapy of tumors
- Molecular Tumor diagnostics and therapies
- Immunotherapy for the treatment of cancer.
- Prof. Bassermann studied medicine in Ulm, Munich and New York. He received his doctor’s degree at the Technical University of Munich.
- Prior to becoming a Postdoctoral Fellow at the New York University (2006 - 2009), the doctor began his clinical and scientific activities at the Technical University of Munich.
- After his return to the Technical University of Munich, he has headed the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group (funding from the German Research Foundation). Here he was also recognized as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology, as well as had his habilitation.
- In 2011, he was appointed a Senior Physician, whereas in 2015 received an invitation to the position of Professor at the Technical University of Munich.
- Since November 2017, Prof. Bassermann has been heading the Department of Hematology and Oncology at the University Hospital Rechts der Isar Munich.
