The Department of Internal medicine II: Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Diabetology and Infectology at university hospital Recht der Isar focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, endocrinology, diabetes and infectious diseases to ensure optimal care. The department treats more than 5,000 in-patients and about 15,000 outpatients every year. The department also offers a wide range of modern endoscopic and sonographic (ultrasound) examinations as well as all relevant gastroenterological and endocrinological functional examinations.
The medical team is directed by Prof. Dr. med. Roland M. Schmid. The department has over 60 qualified medical doctors and more than 190 healthcare staff including nurses, secretaries, administrators, and researchers. The department also conducts patient-oriented clinical research which aims to improve their quality of care, as well as internationally recognized basic research. The department treats over 5000 cases of different endocrine and gastrointestinal issues including 147 cases of pancreatic cancer, and over 751 cases of the various gallbladder and gastrointestinal diseases every year.
