Department of Pneumology at Hannover Medical School provides care for patients with diseases of the lungs as well as sleep disorders. The four stations of the facility are fully equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics for the management of the full spectrum of lung diseases. The sleep laboratory follows the international guidelines and has a medical team of experts in pulmonology as well as ENT (otolaryngology) specialists who work together to treat about 300 patients annually for snoring and other sleeping disorders.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Tobias Welte, the staff treats over 1,670 inpatients every year. There's a separate department for experimental pneumology while the research unit is involved in the German Center for Lung Research. Subjects such as molecular pneumology, fibrotic lung diseases, lung transplants are the main focuses of the research groups.
