Department of Ophthalmology at Hannover Medical School provides medical care in the form of diagnosis, conservative and surgical treatment of diseases of the eyes and the orbit. As a center that is fully equipped with the most advanced diagnostics and therapeutics, the facility offers optimal care for patients with a special focus directed towards medicinal and surgical treatment of retinal and macular diseases, glaucoma, cataract as well as corneal diseases. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Carsten Framme, the medical team treats over 22,000 patients and performs over 4,000 outpatient and 3,700 surgical operations every year. The research unit focuses on research projects on ophthalmic imaging, especially retinal imaging that allows for better monitoring of therapeutic methods and more rapid and accurate diagnosis.
