Department of Nuclear Medicine

Department of Nuclear Medicine at Hannover Medical school is one of the few departments in Germany that offers the latest diagnostic and therapeutic services provided by nuclear medicine.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Frank Bengel, the department treats about 600 inpatients every year. The department is best known for its use of scintigraphy and radioiodine therapy for thyroid tumors. The department also uses the latest innovative therapies, such as Ra-223 and Lu-177 (lutetium) therapy for metastatic prostate cancer, peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) for neuroendocrine tumors, and selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT) for treatment of liver tumors.
