Department of Neurosurgery

The Department of Neurosurgery at Hannover Medical school offers all the surgeries and procedures needed for the treatment of the entire spectrum of neurosurgical diseases. Focus areas include functional neurosurgery, craniofacial surgery, spine surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, craniocerebral injuries.
The department provides special care to the patients before, during and after the surgery.
The medical staff consists of four senior physicians, two specialists, 18 assistant physicians, three visiting physicians, 71 nurses, seven technical staff members, and six scientific staff. The department also has four operating theaters, a 28-bed neurosurgical ward, two private wards with a total of 15 beds and 12 beds at a neurosurgical intensive care ward, 34 single beds, as well as 6 beds available in the building of the dental clinic. With Prof. Dr. med. Joachim K. Krauss as the head of the department, the department offers care for more than 2,000 inpatients, 4,000 outpatients and performs more than 2,000 procedures a year.
