Department of Immunology and Rheumatology

Department of Immunology and Rheumatology at Hannover Medical school is a clinical department that primarily treats patients with primary and secondary immunodeficiencies, infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases, especially those in the rheumatic area.
In 1994, it was established as a separate department of Clinical Immunology and in 2007, Rheumatology was merged with it to make Department of Immunology and Rheumatology.
This department isn’t only engaged clinically, but also has an active role in researches for antiretroviral therapy and studies of genes that may be causing immunodeficiency in infants. The department, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Reinhold E. Schmidt treats more than 1,500 inpatients with immunity disorders and over 2000 patients suffering from persistent joints inflammation with a positive rheumatoid factor in the blood.

Department of Immunology and Rheumatology at Hannover Medical school is specialized in:

•    Diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired immunodeficiency

  • 1980 Research Internship in the Department of Rheumatology, Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London, England.
