Department of Ophthalmology at University Medical Center Göttingen provides the full range of care for inpatients and outpatients with diseases of the eye and the orbit as a certified eye clinic according to ISO 9001:2015 standards. The department consists of four cornerstone units for; the anterior segment of the eye, the posterior portion of the eye, neuroophthalmological, and refractive surgery. All units are equipped with the full spectrum of the latest, cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics and have experienced qualified specialists taking care of patients. The Anterior Segment of the Eye Area is concerned with the treatment of glaucoma, cataract, and corneal diseases, while the Refractive Surgery unit has achieved excellent results in the laser treatment of ametropia as it follows the standards of the Refractive Surgery Commission (KRC) of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG) and the Professional Association of Ophthalmologists in Germany (BVA). Under the guidance of Director Prof. Dr. Hans Hoerauf, the medical staff treats over 4,000 inpatients every year and contributes to the fundamental retinal research that is carried out in the research laboratory for ‘Sensory Processing in the Retina'.
