Department of Nephrology and Rheumatology at University Medical Center Göttingen is a specialized facility that works in close cooperation with other institutions to provide interdisciplinary care for patients with diseases of the kidneys as well as rheumatic diseases. The facility is fully equipped with the latest, cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics for the management of the full spectrum of kidney diseases and damage. The medical team offers the entire range of kidney replacement therapy measures, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, in the dialysis and apheresis station.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Michael Zeisberg, the facility operates on a high level of excellence as it treats over 2,700 patients every year and also conducts important basic research projects and clinical studies. Research subjects include renal fibrosis, diabetic nephropathy, and stress-induced kidney changes. Due to the cooperation with the Department of Dermatology, Venerology, and Allergology, the interdisciplinary rheumatological-immunological day clinic has achieved impressive results.
