Department of Cardiology and Pneumology at University Medical Center Göttingen is a specialized comprehensive medical center that offers the entire range of medical care for congenital and acquired diseases of the heart as well as acute and chronic diseases of the lungs. The department consists of many units that are specifically designed and equipped for their specializations. The coronary diagnostics and therapy unit has its main focus directed towards the therapeutic measures for complicated coronary heart diseases, including stent implantation and percutaneous coronary interventions. Under the leadership of Director Prof. Dr. Gerd Hasenfuß, the medical staff works in close cooperation with the Heart Center Göttingen to perform over 600 catheter interventions every year for patients with structural heart diseases.
The supra-regional Heart Center Göttingen has gained the title of the National Heart Failure Center by the German Society for Cardiology. Medical service for cardiac arrhythmias such as intermediate care, intensive care, as well as long-term therapy is offered at the highest levels of care in their specialized units. The pneumology unit directs a significant focus towards the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis as well as infections and autoimmune disorders of the lungs.
