The department is well-known for its efforts and success in the field of joint replacement surgery, musculoskeletal tumors, arthroscopic procedures, as well as sports medicine as it's an established Center for Sports Orthopedics and also a part of the Operative Medicine Center at Oberdürrbacher Street.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Rainer H. Meffert, the medical team performs over 3,000 procedures and aids 15,000 emergencies every year as it's fully equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics and in cooperation with the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Immune Hematology, Physiotherapy, and Clinical Transfusion Medicine. The regional Trauma Network North Bavaria Würzburg has a rooftop landing pad that receives about 1,000 landings every year and also treats over 700 severely injured patients.
