Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at University Hospital Würzburg provides care for infants, children, and adolescents with acute and chronic diseases of various organs. The department, established back in the 1850s, is one of the oldest specialized centers for pediatrics that has a remarkable reputation and achievements. As a certified Level I Perinatal Center, the staff ensures the utmost care for premature babies and underweight infants in a child-friendly way.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Christian Speer, the medical team treats 6,500 inpatients and 30,000 outpatients every year in the 17 specialized clinics, ten modern stations, two polyclinics, and the intensive care unit. The facility has many specialized centers, such as the Stem Cell Transplant Center that follows the national and international guidelines and is certified by JAICE, the Pediatric Cancer Cente, one of the largest medical facilities of its specialty in Germany, and the Christiane Herzog Center for cystic fibrosis.
