Department of Neurosurgery

Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Würzburg provides surgical care for patients with diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems. The department was the first specialized establishment for the surgical management of neurological disorders in Germany as it has been an independent department since 1934.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Ralf-Ingo Ernestus, the medical team works in close cooperation with the Institute for Neuroradiology, Departments of Neurology, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, General Pediatrics, and Radiation Therapy to treat over 2,000 inpatients every year in the 50 beds of the general wards. The Pediatric Neurosurgery Center t is one of the pioneering facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders in children and adolescents as it has cutting-edge equipment for the management of inflammatory, neoplastic, degenerative, and autoimmune diseases of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.
