Department of Neurology

Department of Neurology at University Hospital Würzburg provides care for patients with diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems. The main concerns of the department are Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, as well as neuromuscular pathologies. The department has cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics such as electrophysiological examinations and brain stimulation therapy as it's in cooperation with the Department of Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology to ensure specialist’s care for every patient.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Jens Volkmann, the medical staff treats over 7,000 outpatients and 3,600 inpatients every year in the outpatient clinics as well as inpatient general wards with a bed capacity of 68 beds. The intensive care unit has ten beds where about 500 patients receive optimal care annually. The facility directs great focus towards stroke treatment in its specialized Stroke Unit, which consists of 8 beds where specialists treat nearly 600 patients a year,
