Department of Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery at University Hospital Tübingen provides surgical care for patients with diseases of the thoracic organs and blood vessels. The department is a member of the German Heart Center of Excellence Tübingen and it is known for its top-notch quality care. FOCUS Magazine has recognized the department as one of the best facilities in Germany for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Equipped with the latest surgical techniques and equipment, the department offers its service on inpatients and outpatients basis for the full spectrum of heart, lungs, and blood vessel diseases.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Christian Schlensak, the department treats over 1,700 inpatients every year. The department is also widely recognized for its great medical staff as Dr. Schlensak himself is the first specialist to perform a heart transplantation surgery on an infant in Baden-Wüttemberg.
