Department of General, Visceral, and Transplant Surgery at University Hospital Tübingen provides surgical treatments for patients with diseases of the digestive tract and organs such as the liver and pancreas. The department is certified by the DGAV as a center for Obesity, Peritoneum, and Metabolic Surgery. FOCUS Magazine also recognized the department as one of the best facilities in Germany for the treatment of colon cancer. The department is also certified by the German Continence Society.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Alfred Königsrainer, the department treats over 3,100 inpatients every year, many of which suffer gallstones. The department has special attention directed towards the surgical treatment of tumors as it is certified by the German Cancer Society as a Visceral Oncology Center. The department is equipped with the most advanced therapeutics and surgical techniques to ensure the patient gets optimal care such as the da Vinci surgical system and minimally invasive procedures.
