Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology, Angiology, and Nephrology at University Hospital Tübingen provides care for patients with diseases of the endocrine glands, pancreas, blood vessels, and kidney. The department mainly specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes mellitus. FOCUS Magazine has recognized the diabetology unit of the department as one of the best facilities in Germany for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The unit has also gained the certification of the German Diabetes Association.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Birkenfeld, the department treats over 2,160 inpatients every year. The department is in cooperation with the Departments of Nuclear Medicine and Radiology for the diagnostics of endocrinal diseases and it is also in collaboration with the Department of Hematology for thrombophilia screening.
