Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Stuttgart offers the entire diagnostic and therapeutic spectrum of nuclear medicine at Katharinen Hospital. The department provides patients with modern two-head systems for conventional scintigraphic examinations, including Hawkeye technology, an advanced method where an X-ray tube help make CT-like sectional images. Under the management of Prof. Dr. Gabriele Pöpperl, the medical staff uses the newest PECT/CT scanners for early detection and diagnosis of neurological and cardiac diseases.
The department works in close cooperation with various clinics of the Stuttgart Hospital to provide optimal, comprehensive care for each patient. Since nuclear medicine is proven to be most effective in the treatment of thyroid diseases, the department assigned a therapy station of 12 beds for thyroid patients to receive radioiodine therapy. The general ward is for patients with other pathologies such as neuroendocrine tumors, malignant liver tumors, and metastatic prostatic cancer.
