Department of Nephrology and Hypertension at University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein provides the full range of care for patients with kidney diseases as well as hypertension, including all types of kidney replacement therapy. The facility has the entire spectrum of modern, cutting-edge equipment for the diagnosis, treatment, and dialysis of kidney patients. The medical team, consisting of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and wound nurses, of the nephrological ward work in close cooperation with the Departments of Gastroenterology & General Internal Medicine, Hematology & Oncology, and Cardiology & Angiology to ensure specialists’ care for patients every step of the management plan.
Under the directorship of Prof. Dr. med. Ulrich Kunzendorf, the department offers the full range of kidney replacement measures, such as hemodialysis, plasma separation, immunoadsorption, as well as the Prometheus method, used for compound failure of the liver and kidney. The Kiel Transplant Center works closely with the department to offer kidney transplantation as it is the preferred kidney replacement therapy to improve the life quality for patients.
