Department of Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery

Department of Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery at University Hospital RWTH Aachen provides surgical care for patients with conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system as well as bones. The department is established as the Maximum Care Trauma Center and is one of the leading facilities of its kind in Germany. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Frank Hildebrand, the department treats more than 2,000 inpatients and over 10,000 patients rushed from accidents every year. It also performs over 3,000 procedures of minimally invasive and complicated surgeries. 
The department has research activities that are concerned with improving the field of musculoskeletal diseases. Studies are conducted on the inflammatory reaction and the process of complications to understand them and find ways to treat and prevent them. This unit is in cooperation with the Trauma Department of other university hospitals like Marburg University Hospital, Ulm University Hospital, and University Hospital Frankfurt.
