It was established in 1976 and it’s known as one of the pioneering centers in North Rhine-Westphalia as it has performed over 40,000 open-heart procedures.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger Autschbach, over 1,500 surgical procedures are performed in this department every year. the department has 63 beds where specialized and experienced doctors treat patients following the international standards of care quality. The research unit of this department has its attention directed towards the experimental research on organ protection and coronary prostheses.
