Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at University Hospital RWTH Aachen is one of the best centers of its kind in Germany. It provides the surgical care needed by children and adolescents with heart defects and disorders. The care offered includes the pre-surgery preparation, surgical intervention and postoperative care with the cooperation with the Department of Pediatric Cardiology. All members of the medical staff are trained to treat children with kindness and respect. Both departments of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Gynecology work in cooperation to detect and treat congenital defects. The department is in possession of the latest invasive and non-invasive diagnostics and therapeutics. The collaboration with the Department of Radiology allows for the usage of the most advanced imaging for accurate rapid diagnosis. The department offers monitoring of adults with congenital defects and treatment of children with esophageal atresia. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Jaime Vázquez-Jiménez, the department treats about 500 inpatients every year.

Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at University Hospital RWTH Aachen is specialized in pacemaker implantation and the surgical treatment of:

•   Acquired heart defects
•   Diseases of mediastinum and trachea
•   Esophageal atresia
