Department of Orthopedics at University Hospital RWTH Aachen provides surgical care needed by patients with musculoskeletal diseases. Joint, sports, spinal column, pediatric, geriatric, tumor and foot orthopedics are the main stations of the orthopedics department. This department has an impressive record concerning joint orthopedics.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Markus Tingart, more than 3,000 primary artificial joints, and nearly 1,000 replacement operations have been performed in this department over the years and for these accomplishments, the department was recognized by the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery. The department is also certified by the European Endoprosthesis Center and the Center for Modern Cartilage Surgery. One of the special features of this department is its Scoliosis Center which is considered one of the best and biggest centers for spine surgery in Germany for its efforts in diagnosis, treatment, and research. The Social Code states that it’s the patient’s right to get a second opinion and for this, the department has the Second Opinion Center where patients can go and get more than one opinion on whether they need surgery or not.
