Department of Neurology

Department of Neurology at University Hospital RWTH Aachen provides care for patients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases. The department is formed of 2 units for the general practice, 2 stroke units and one intensive care unit. The department has special attention directed towards stroke, epilepsy, neuroimmunological and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Jörg B. Schulz, the department treats nearly 5,000 inpatients every year, about 850 of which suffer from stroke and 500 suffer from epilepsy. The research unit of this department is working on understanding the process of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and ataxia in hopes of finding the best therapeutic and preventive measures.
