Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine
Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at University Hospital Mannheim provides care for children and adolescents with congenital and acquired diseases. The department is certified by the German Cancer Society and works in cooperation with the Departments of Pediatric Surgery and Neonatology and therefore considered as a Center of Excellence for children. The department is divided into many units such as endocrinology and diabetes, gastroenterology and hepatology, hematology and oncology, neurology and epileptology, pulmonology and infectious diseases as well as a specialized unit for HIV patients.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Horst Crushing, the department treats over 3,500 inpatients every year, 200 of which are children complaining of diarrhea. FOCUS Magazine has considered Dr. Crushing as one of the best pediatric physicians in Germany. The research unit of the department is known for its great efforts and achievements and it has many running projects such as pediatric Infectiological research and CNS metastasis of neuroblastoma cells.
