Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University Hospital Mainz provides care to infants, children, and adolescents with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. The department is a leading center for pediatric gastroenterological and liver diseases in Germany and has special attention directed towards inflammatory liver diseases, liver tumors and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The department takes pride in its endoscopic equipment for both the diagnosis and treatment of various digestive diseases.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Stephan Gehring, the research unit of the department conducts many research projects, especially for hepatitis B and C, which helps enhancing the diagnostics and therapeutics as well as the preventive measures to avoid such diseases.
