Department of Neonatology at University Hospital Mainz provides care to infants and premature babies with congenital diseases. One of the main concerns of the department is the diagnosis and treatment of newborns with congenital malformations which would require surgical intervention. The department is in cooperation with the Departments of Obstetrics, Perinatal Diagnostics, Pediatric Surgery, and various other pediatric departments to ensure each patient gets optimal, tailor-made care.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Eva Mildenberger, the department focuses mainly on premature babies as it treats nearly 80 babies suffering from low body weight annually. The department is a remarkable, certified Level I Perinatal Center with its outstanding medical staff consisting of specialists and experienced, trained nursing members.
