Department of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation

Department of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation at University Hospital Mainz provides care for patients with tumors and diseases of the blood. The department offers its service on both outpatient and inpatient basis where the diagnosis and treatment of bone marrow, blood, and lymphatic system malignancies are provided. The department also offers stem cell transplantation for complex diseases.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Matthias Theobald, the department treats about 2,900 inpatients every year, 250 of which are lymphoma patients. The department is equipped with the cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics for malignant diseases of all organs. The department offers the full range of tumor therapy such as transfusion therapy, growth factor therapy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy as well as immunotherapy. Another focus of the department is blood clotting disorders as the department works in close cooperation with the Comprehensive Care Center in the treatment of complex bleeding disorders.
