Department of Urology
Department of Urology at University Hospital Leipzig provides conservative and surgical care for patients with diseases of the urinary and male genital system. The department is a pioneering center in the field of laparoscopic urological surgery also known as keyhole surgery. The department has a clinic and around-the-clock emergency room that is equipped with the latest, most advanced endoscopic, open surgical, laparoscopic and drug therapies for the treatment of the urogenital organ diseases. The department is a significant member of the Continence Center at the University Hospital Leipzig and a recognized center for the treatment of prostate cancer.
With Prof. Dr. med. Jens Uwe Stolzenburg as the head of the department, over 2,300 inpatients are treated within the department every year. The research unit of the department has recent studies on the treatment of renal cell carcinoma, bladder dysfunction, erectile dysfunction as well as prostate cancer. It also has some areas which are being studied in the research laboratory such as bladder pain syndrome and new treatments for bladder cancer.

- Professor Dr. Jens-Uwe Stolzenburg is Head of Urology Dept. at the University of Leipzig Hospital. He is an internationally recognized specialist in the field of endoscopic urology. Prof. Stolzenburg has done over 10,000 nerve-sparing ‘radical prostatectomies’ in his career.

- 1999 – Consultant Urologist and Senior Physician at the Department of Urology, University Hospital of Leipzig
- since 1999 – Head of an international aid project for the construction of urological care in hospitals in Cameroon
- since 2002 – Head of the “International Training Center of Urologic Laparoscopy ” the University of Leipzig
- 2005 – present – Director of the Department of Urology at the University Hospital of Leipzig
