Department of Otolaryngology

Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) at University Hospital Leipzig provides care for patients with diseases affecting the throat, ear, and nose as well as the head and neck malignancies. The department works in cooperation with the Cancer Center at the University Hospital Leipzig and has the main focus directed towards cancer treatment with organ-preserving procedures as well as effective, high-precision radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The department has a cochlear implant center which is headed by Prof. Dr. Med. Michael Fuchs. The Cochlear Implant Center was founded in 2010 and provides the increasing demand for implants that exceed 50 patients every year.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Dietz, the department treats over 2,500 inpatients every year, 260 of which are patients suffering from tonsillitis. Dr. Dietz is one of the Chairmen of the Working Group Oncology of the German ENT Society, Deputy Speaker of the Interdisciplinary Working Group head and neck cancer, the German Cancer Society and initiator of Germany's largest laryngeal organ preservation study. The department also has a Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery unit where scars are treated and nose as well as face and brow surgical lifts are performed.
