Department of Nuclear Medicine

Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Leipzig offers the latest, state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics that are fueled by radioactive substances. The field of nuclear medicine has shown great results in thyroid diseases. The department is an accredited PET/CT Center of Excellence for its efforts in the research and application of new nuclear medicine measures. The department is in close cooperation with many departments such as the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology for the treatment of oncological diseases.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Osama Sabri, the department treats over 650 inpatients every year, about 500 of which are thyroid patients. The department offers cutting-edge diagnostics such as gamma camera, PET scan, Neuro-SPECT as well as renal scintigraphy. The department also provides the most advanced therapeutic uses of nuclear medicine especially in inflammatory joint diseases which are treated with RSO. The department also offers the peptide-mediated radioreceptor therapy and selective internal radiation therapy.
