Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at University Hospital Leipzig provides conservative and surgical care for patients with malignant diseases of the female reproductive system and breast. The department is an international center for females with reproductive organ cancer and has state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics as well as the latest surgical techniques developed for serious conditions. The department has a General Gynecology unit where benign tumors of the ovary and uterus as well as inflammatory diseases are treated and it has special attention directed towards pelvic floor dysfunction where all types of pelvic floor disorders are diagnosed by endoscopic surgical procedures. One of the main concerns of the department is the treatment of all gynecological cancers under the guideline of the Leipzig School of Radical Pelvic Surgery for which it works in close cooperation with the Department of Radiation Oncology as well as the Institute of Pathology at University Hospital Leipzig.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Bahriye Aktas, the department treats over 1,450 inpatients every year, many of which are diagnosed with breast cancer. The department is certified by the German Cancer Society and follows the guidelines of DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. The Breast Center of the department manages all benign and malignant diseases of the breast, especially breast cancers. The center is in cooperation with the Departments of Radiotherapy, Visceral Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Orthopedic and Plastic Surgery as well as the Hospital Cancer Center to offer the patients individual treatment plan. The department is also known for its robot-assisted surgical interventions where the Da Vinci Surgical System is used for minimally invasive procedures.
