Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Allergology at University Hospital Leipzig provides conservative and surgical care for patients with skin conditions, allergic reactions as well as sexually transmitted diseases. The department is divided into specialized units such as the Dermatologic Surgery Center, Skin Cancer Center, Reference Center of the European Academy of Andrology as well as the Leipzig Interdisciplinary Center for Allergology. The Dermatologic Surgery Center is fully equipped with the most advanced equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases. The main areas of focus of the department are reconstructive tumor surgery, inflammatory diseases of the skin as well as varicose vein surgery. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Jan Christoph Simon, the surgical unit performs over 3,000 interventions every year.
The department is composed of 2 wards and other functional areas such as the Laser Aesthetics unit, Allergy unit and Andrology unit and has a bed count of 50 beds where over 2,500 inpatients are treated annually. The Skin Cancer Center of the department was among the first centers to be certified and re-certified by the German Cancer Society. The cancer center treats over 1,000 inpatients and 2,500 outpatients diagnosed with some type of skin cancer.
