Department of Pediatrics at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf provides medical care for newborns, children, and adolescents for the full range of diseases. The department has an extraordinary medical staff of 352 qualified members who are specialized in the health of children. The department of pediatrics has a specialized unit for newborns and pediatric intensive care. The ward dedicated to newborns is composed of 21 beds where babies with diseases requiring care in the first few days of life are treated.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Ania Muntau, the department treats over 17,000 outpatients and nearly 5,000 inpatients every year. The research unit of the department of pediatrics is more concerned with research areas of the metabolism and respiratory distress in premature newborns.
