Department of Otolaryngology

Department of Otolaryngology at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf provides medical care for ear, nose and throat diseases as well as head and neck tumors. The Department of Otolaryngology is composed of 38 beds where more than 2,800 inpatients are treated every year. The department is in possession of the most advanced equipment for diagnosis and treatment, it has a section for Functional Diagnostics, a Cochlear Implantation section, an operation rooms with cutting-edge technology for middle ear, inner ear, nasal, paranasal and skull base surgery. 
Department of Otolaryngology at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf is in cooperation with the Harvard Medical School, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the MD Anderson Cancer Center Houston. The department also hosts a Tumor Expert Congress every other year. With Prof. Dr. Med. Christian Betz as the head of the department, it provides medical care for more than 9,000 outpatients and performs over 1,500 operations annually. The head and neck surgery unit of the department of otolaryngology has the main focus on tumors of the area. More than 1,000 surgical interventions are performed every year for the removal of tumors of the thyroid, scalp, neck and salivary glands as it’s certified by the German Cancer Society.
