Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf provides medical care for all eye diseases for both adults and children, as well as emergency care of eye injuries. The department is well-known for its advanced diagnostics and modern treatment approaches. The department has a leading role in the ophthalmological field in Germany.
The 65 beds of the department are equipped and used for the treatment of more than 6,000 inpatients yearly under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Martin Spitzer. The department also offers its care for nearly 25,000 outpatients and has been performing over 7,000 surgical interventions every year. The department has a great reputation in the transplantation field, many lens extractions and transplants are performed every year, as well as more than 100 corneal transplants, were performed last year.
