Department of Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf provides medical care for both mother and baby during pregnancy and delivery as well as postpartum. The department is in collaboration with neonatology, pediatrics, infectiology and human genetics to ensure the best quality care for each patient. The department has the cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics that allow for early detection of disorders and their optimal management. Special attention is directed towards the early detection of high-risk pregnancies and congenital malformations of the baby during pregnancy.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Kurt Hecher, the department provides care for nearly 7,000 inpatients every year. The department of gynecology has 5 advanced delivery rooms, in which over 3,000 deliveries are carried out every year. The department is considered as one of the top medical institutions in Germany in this field by FOCUS Magazine as it is a recognized Level I Perinatal Center.
