Department of Gynecology

Department of Gynecology at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf provides medical care for female children, adolescents, and adults who have inflammatory, autoimmune or neoplastic diseases targeting the female reproductive system. The surgical unit of the department prefers organ-sparing and minimally invasive procedures as one of the special features of the department which are performed with the help of advanced robotic da Vinci surgical method. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Barbara Schmalfeldt, the department treats more than 1,700 inpatients and 1,150 outpatients every year. 
Department of Gynecology at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf has a great reputation in its field. It has been regarded as one of the top medical facilities in Germany in the field of breast cancer treatment by FOCUS Magazine. The department is also known for its pioneering Breast Cancer Center where great achievements have been made in this field. Therapeutic measure for breast cancer in the department strictly follows the guidelines of the German Cancer Society and the German Society of Senology and it also offers psychological care as cancer is known to have a negative mental and psychological effect. Procedures for breast reconstruction are performed as soon as possible after tumor removal, sometimes during the same operation. The department of gynecology at UKE has earned the name of the supraregional Competence Center for Surgical and Conservative Gynecologic Oncology.
