Department of Dermatology and Venereology at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf provides the medical care for skin diseases and sexually transmitted diseases. Special attention is directed towards skin tumors, chronic wounds, psoriasis, eczema, allergy, and autoimmune diseases. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Stefan W. Schneider, the department treats nearly 7,000 inpatients and 23,000 outpatients yearly and has also performed about 2,500 surgical operations last year. The department has a great reputation in consultation service which goes beyond the borders of Hamburg.
The research unit of this department gives special focus to topics such as the barrier function of the skin, wound healing, dermato-oncology, andrology and new allergy tests for the skin and eye. Inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis are one of the key aspects of the researches conducted as well as andrological tumors and wound healing.
