Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf provides surgical care for patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. This department is one of the 4 departments forming the University Heart & Vascular Center Hamburg. The main area of focus of this department is minimally invasive valve surgery. Great efforts have been directed towards heart valve repair. 
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Hermann Reichenspurner, the department performs more than 2,000 surgeries with the help of heart-lung machine as well as nearly 400 aortic valve implantation procedures. Another area of specialty of this facility is the surgical treatment of coronary heart disease. With the cutting-edge equipment and qualified surgeons, the department’s reputation in the field of arterial bypass procedures is outstanding.
