Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Halle (Saale) provides care for patients with eye and orbit diseases. The department offers state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics for diseases originating from the eye as well as eye inclusion of the systemic diseases. The department works in cooperation with the Trauma Center for emergency ocular injuries.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Arne Viestenz, the department of ophthalmology treats about 3,500 inpatients every year, more than 1,200 of which are glaucoma patients. The department is an important member of the Central German Cornea Bank Hall where more than 275 corneal transplantations are performed annually.
Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Halle (Saale) is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of:

- 2005 - 2011 Medical Specialist, Senior Physician, Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital Magdeburg.
- 2008 Habilitation.
- 2011 - 2016 Senior Physician, Leading Senior Physician, Professor for Ophthalmology, University Hospital Homburg/Saar.
- Since February 2017 Head of the Department of Adult and Pediatric Ophthalmology at the University Hospital Halle (Saale).
