Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Greifswald offers surgical care for inpatients and outpatients with diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems. The department is certified for Peripheral & Vascular Nerve Surgery by the German Society of Neurosurgery for its great success and reputation, especially as a Center for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery. The facility consists of two ultra-modern stations that have the latest, state-of-the-art microscopes, aspiratory, monitoring systems, and other instruments.
The department operates under the guidance of one of the top experts recognized by FOCUS Magazine in the field of brain tumors treatment in Germany, Prof. Dr. med. Henry Schroeder. The medical team carries out over 1,600 interventions every year, many of which are endoscopic surgeries, operations for skull base diseases, epilepsy surgeries, spine, and peripheral nerve surgeries. The German Cancer Society has recognized the facility as the only Neuro-Oncology Center in Northern Germany and the Pediatric Neurosurgery unit as one of the best 20 facilities of its specialty.
