Department of Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Nutritional, and Emergency Medicine at University Hospital Greifswald offers the full range of the latest, cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics for various diseases. The department works in close cooperation with the Visceral Oncology Center to provide multidisciplinary treatment for tumor patients. The treatment plan usually involves nutritional consultation and counseling as most serious diseases require diet and lifestyle modifications. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Markus M. Lerch, the department treats over 4,000 inpatients every year thanks to the cooperation between the stations.
The Endocrinology & Diabetology unit directs special attention to the management of diabetes mellitus, along with disorders of the pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands. The Nephrology station offers all types of dialysis for both inpatients and outpatients, including hemodialysis, hemofiltration, and plasmaphereses. The medical team of the Rheumatology station, with the help of various specialists, offers interdisciplinary care for inflammatory, metabolic, systemic rheumatological, and autoimmune diseases. The emergency facility has specialists from the national stroke unit and the trauma surgery center as well as the most advanced equipment in its intervention rooms for the best treatment of patients in critical conditions.
